Hearing Loss in Children- Dr L H Hiranandani Hospital

Early diagnosis of hearing loss in children is crucial as sound deprivation for a long time can affect the development of speech & communication skills. This is why new-borns should undergo hearing screening at birth & those showing a higher risk of developing hearing loss should undergo an OAE & ABR/BERA.

Hearing loss detected in any of these tests must be followed by a further detailed evaluation. Since the first 3 years of a child’s life are crucial, one should continue to look for any signs of hearing loss even if the initial tests showed normal hearing. To conclude, whenever hearing loss is suspected in children, a hearing evaluation is necessary.
